This morning at LaSeyne-sur-Mer, just befre the postlogue of the Tour de France à la voile 2009 - the race around France-, William Borel, the director of race announced the choice of the one-designed monohull which will succeed to the Farr 30 in 2011. The M34 project, built by the Archambault and designed by the Joubert-Nivelt has won the competition against the JPK998 and the Coutts / K-Challenge,the other two designs of the orginial 23 boats list.

With 10,34 m length, this monotype is nearly one meter longer than the Farr 30. She will be able to sail on longer distances. And William Borel did announced an innovation : the creation of the first crewed transatlantic race on a one-design which will come to increase this actual circuit (the french crew championship). The first departure of this biannual race, organized like the TFV by Larivière Organization and supported by FFVoile, will be given on winter/spring 2011/2012. It should take the road of the Trade winds and make a speed run on the Atlantic.

Emmanuel Archambault, the “boss” of the building site, and Alexandre Mercier, architect of the cabinet Joubert-Nivelt Design, confirmed that the first specimen of M34 should be born in March 2010 and will be officially introduced in the next edition of the TFV in July 2010. From this date, M34 will be built at a rate of 5 units per month so, asconfirmed it Frederic de Watrigant, the Tour de France 2011 should be disputed on this only boat.

At January 31, 2009, 23 preliminary drafts coming from nine different countries had been received by William Borel, sign of an main interest for the test. On March 13, shorts-list of three names were retained : the JPK 998 presented by JPK Composite and drawn by Jacques Valer, One T2011 Design presented by K-Challenge and drawn by the duet Russel Coutts/Andrej Justin and, finally, M34 presented by the Archambault building site and drawn by the cabinet Joubert-Nivelt Design.

William Borel : “the M34presented the choices more innovating with the K-Challenge project. I think in particular of the moving keel which allows a draught of 2,5 m at sea and can be reduced to the port or for transport to 1,70 m. And it was about that which scrupulously respected the schedule of conditions including in term of insurance of the budget for the future. The Archambault building site also presents guarantees of internationalization with steps less than 1650 Surprised which sail since 1977 everywhere in the world”.

M34, name provisional since Larivière Organisation will announce later its final name, just like the one of the new transatlantic race, will succeed to the Farr 30 after 12 years of good and faithful services.

Lastly, breaking news, Cino Ricci, organizer of Giro Calved, announced that this race would also adopt the M34 when it changes support. One sees it with this new boat, the organizers of the TFV also hope to instigate and internationalize still more the circuit. A good news for the TFV.
