Soldini commented : « We set sail with 18 knots of Easterly wind that gave us a good push at the beginning, then it dropped to 12 knots and it turned to downwind, so we slowed down and we had to gybe many times, sailing for a total of 61 miles. Because of the lighter wind we weren’t able to push Maserati Multi 70 to the fullest, but we had a lot of fun and it was a great test for the boat : now we will continue towards Corsica ! »
Aboard the trimaran, Giovanni Soldini sailed with Guido Broggi, Ronan Cointo, Oliver Herrera Perez, Matteo Soldini and Pierre Casiraghi, who already raced many times both aboard VOR70 Maserati and Maserati Multi 70.
The previous Monaco-Saint Tropez record Record #sailingrecord for the monohulls was held by Norse sailor Knut Frostad, former Volvo Ocean Race Volvo Ocean Race #VolvoOceanRace CEO : on October 20th, 1999, aboard 32-meter-long Wally Nariida, the skipper sailed for 48 miles in 3 hours, 4 minutes and 44 seconds, with an average speed of 15,65 knots.
In the next days the Italian Team will continue their trainings in the Mediterranean : after sailing around Corsica, they will sail along the Italian coast to go back to La Spezia, to test in all wind conditions and points of sail the trimaran improvements, developed in almost four months in the shipyard.
